Makeup Designer
DESCRIPTION: Responsible for the visual appearance of any makeup worn by the actors. The makeup designer works closely with the Costume Designer to create a look for each actor that will visually support the character.
REPORTS TO: Costume Designer and Director
EXPECTATIONS:
Read and analyze the script, noting events that affect each character's appearance, so that plans can be made for each scene.
Study production information, such as character descriptions, period settings, and situations to determine makeup requirements.
Consult with the Costume Designer and Director to determine desired effects.
Conduct necessary research.
Evaluate environmental characteristics such as venue size and lighting plans to determine makeup requirements.
Submit designs to Director and Costume Designer for approval.
Create Makeup Charts and materials needs for each performer.
Establish budget and work within those limits.
Select desired makeup from individual performers kit, department stock to achieve specific effects.
Requisition or acquire needed materials for special effects, including wigs, beards, and special cosmetics.
Arrange for performer and crew training of application as appropriate.
Attend dress rehearsals and adjust designs and application as needed.
