Hair and Wig Designer
DESCRIPTION: Pulls, purchases, alters or manufactures all wigs, hair styles and facial hair as designed by the Costume Designer to enhance the portrayal of characters to the audience within a production. Facilitates or performs haircuts needed on specific productions. Consults/advises on the maintenance of the wig/hair stock.
REPORTS TO: Costume Designer and Costume Shop Manager
EXPECTATIONS:
Read and analyze the script, noting events that affect each character's appearance, so that plans can be made for each scene.
Study production information, such as character descriptions, period settings, and situations to determine makeup requirements.
Consult with the Costume Designer and Director to determine desired effects.
Conduct necessary research.
Meet deadlines and schedules.
Carry out wig fittings.
Advise on the schedule of call times, changes and crew responsibilities.
Work within budgets and timelines.
Check stock and from suppliers as required.
Provide instructions to cast and crew members in the application wigs.
Attend Dress Rehearsals as required – make final adjustments.
Ensure wigs are cleaned and stored or returned at the end of run.
