Sound Board Operator

DESCRIPTION:  With instruction and assistance from the Technical Staff and Sound the sound designer, the Sound Board Operator is responsible for operating the sound system for a specific production. The Sound Board Op will receive training in order to be able to save show files, adjust levels, and execute cues. (Note: The operator does not record any of the sound unless the position has been combined with the Sound Engineer.) Once the show opens the operator will perform a speaker check to ensure all sound equipment, including mics, is functioning properly as well as operate the sound computer during each performance. It is expected that the Sound Board Op attends crew orientation, board training, designer run, tech rehearsals, and performances. 

REPORTS TO: Stage Manager, Technical Director and Sound Engineer 

EXPECTATIONS: 

 Q2Q: 

  • Assist with programing the board during the level set  

  • Enter the cues as determined by the Director and Sound Designer Save show file at the end of the night and shut down the sound board 

Tech and Performance: 

  • Attend the Designer Run, Tech Rehearsals and Performances as assigned 

  • Report to Stage Manager at specified call time.  (Most often 60-90 minutes before Go)  

  • Sign in on callboard 

  • Perform a speaker check and troubleshoot as needed 

  • Operate the board and execute cues at the direction of the Stage Manager 

  • Adjust cues at the direction of the Sound Designer 

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Stage Manager (Sweeping/mopping the stage, setting up performer and stage mics, replacing batteries, etc.)
